Tapestry Institute
Special Wildfire Support Resource
Coping with the Aftermath of Wildfire

These web pages supplement wildfire information that Tapestry sent to the public by way of and open letter to the LA Times Newspaper, November 2008. It is intended to fill an existing gap in public information that we discovered first-hand two years ago, after our own experience of wildfire. A complete copy of the letter is available in html format here or for download as a PDF(54KB) here.

Please use the menu to the right to access the information in these pages. You have our permission to copy special wildfire support pages for your personal use, but not for distribution to others or uncredited use elsewhere. These materials are part of a major book about wildfire we are preparing for the general public, so they are copyright-protected. If you'd like us to let you know when the book is in print, please fill out a notification request here.

Finally, and most important, please accept our condolences for your losses -- whether of home, property, a favorite picnic grove, an inspirational view, or (how we hope not!) life. No natural disaster is easy to deal with, but massive wildfires come as more of a surprise to many of us than do earthquakes, tornadoes, or hurricanes. The last few years, and many years yet to come, are and will be a time of change and adjustment for all of us as wildfires reassert their presence after many years' absence. That's as true for people in parts of Europe, Australia, Russia, Asia, and Africa as it is for the people of California. You are most certainly not alone.

All of us wish all of you peace, courage, and hope.
